9 Month Baby Girl, Redness And Soreness Around Inner Thighs And Belly. Tried Different Creams, No Improvement. Advice?

Hi. My daughter is 9 months. For the past couple months, corresponding with heat I guess, she's had a constant on and off again redness and soreness around her inner thigh by her groin and under her belly. Sometimes it gets very raw with almost skin peeling. I tried every kind of cream there is, all natural, A&D, triple paste, calming creams. Nothing helps, it gets a little better just to come back full force. Is this just because she has very sensitive skin? Her doc said it's not yeast but didn't suggest anything. She now has tiny white pimples around her butt crack too. Just appeared out of nowhere.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello.Recurrent redness and small white bumps on the diaper area on an baby of nine months, the diagnosis most likely is Fungal diaper rash.It is a very common pathology in babies.First, you must change your baby's diaper very often,so that urine will not irritate the area.
I treat my patients with a cream with two components-corticosteroid +antifungal ,for example beclometasona+clioquinol twice a day, when Fungal diaper rash is the diagnosis.
Please consult your local doctor for a prescription.
I wish you good health.

Pediatrician Dr. Rajiv K Khandelwal's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

I can understand your dilemma. Kindly share if your daughter is constantly wearing diapers and what has been the response if the area is left open for a little while. Has any scrapping been taken for fungal examination and where any anti-fungal ointment has been applied or not.

The description suggests that you daughter is probably having a fungal infection which needs to be treated by application of clotrimazole ointment and leaving the area dry. Kindly discuss with your doctor and do the needful.

I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.

Wishing your daughter an early recovery.

Regards,

Rajiv K Khandelwal
