84 Years Old, Suffering From Dementia, Alzheimer's. Unsafe For Such A Person To Drive?

I am a 55 year old caregiver for my mother who is in assisted living. she was diagnosed at the age of 84 with moderate dementia and alzheimers. she is insisting on being able to drive but i have taken the care on the recommendation of her primary internist and the neurologist . she missed 14 of the questions on the test and did not have a medical issue causing the dementia. i am correct in acting quickly with the driving preventing an accident in the future?

Hi,
Thank you for posting the query.

You are most likely correct in preventing your mother from driving. Ensuring her safety is of prime importance, and you are doing that.

Based on the doctor's examination, she has moderate dementia. Patients with moderate dementia have difficulty in driving and several cognitive skills. She also may forget the way to the shop or home, due to visuo-spatial disorientation.

Best wishes,
