83 Years. Recurring Sudden Burning Feeling In Tongue And Slurred Speech With Pain In Face. Diagnosed Neuropathy Peripheral Left Facial Pain. Symptoms Of Stroke?
My 83 old mother was at a clinic when all of a sudden her Tongue was on fire with a burning feeling and felt numb and speak was slurred. Her tongue then became very sore and then the pain went into left ear and down the throat. Pain eased off when she quit walking and moving.
Went into emergency. They did a cat scan of head without contract and EKG with 12 leads, Blood tests, a CBS with differential and Comprehensive metabolic panel. This happened a total of 6 times within the 4 hours she was at the emergency.
They sent her home with a diaganosis of neurophathy peripheral left facial pain. Said they would schedule outpatient tests on cartoid arteries and heart and they sent her home. Should we be concerned about these symptoms being stroke symptoms? Feels like they should have done a 24 hour monitoring of her.
Hi, Your mother of 83 years, had swelling of the tongue, burning, slurred speech. It appears to be due to swelling of the tongue due to infection, or biting of the tongue by irregular tooth. The reports could be secondary to the above said. I to my patients with such symptoms prescribe a combination of ofloxacin and ornidazole, anti inflamatory and protiolytic, and lactobacillus. along with neurotropic injections. Thank you.
