81 Year Old With Severe Cough. Spot Seen On The Ultrasound Of The Heart. What Does It Mean?
My 81 yr. old husband was sent to the emergency room yesterday because of severe coughing spells along with a temp. of 100.4. After an ultra sound around the heart (among other tests) the doctor said he would like to keep him in the hospital to explore a spot in his heart that he saw on the screen. What could this mean?

The only thing you might be able to see on an ultrasound of the heart..that could be described as a spot...would be decreased wall motion....or maybe an area of scarring or fluid. Otherwise, I'm not sure what they meant when they said he had a "spot".
