71 Years. PSA Reading 42. Prostate Normal. Have Glaucoma. No Other Medical Problem. Suggest
My 71 husband had a PSA reading of 42. He was referred to a Urologist. The Dr. suspected cancer. However after examining him his prostrate was not hard like a knuckle but felt normal. The doctor says the examine points to nothing. He did order another blood test for the PSA. My husband has no other medical problems except glaucoma and has no difficulty or pain, etc. when urinating. He does however have problems maintain an erection. What could be the problem?

PSA or Prostate-specific antigen, is a protein produced by cells of the prostate gland.The higher a man’s PSA level, the more likely it is that he has prostate cancer however some men who have prostate cancer do not have elevated PSA.
In addition to prostate cancer, a number of benign (not cancerous) conditions can cause a man’s PSA level to rise. The most frequent are prostatitis and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) or a urinary tract infection. problems to maintain an erection can be related to enlarged prostate itself.
If a man who has no symptoms of prostate cancer but has an elevated PSA level, as is the case of your husband with no other symptom but high PSA level 0f 42.the doctor may recommend another PSA test to confirm.
If a man’s PSA level continues to rise or if a suspicious lump is detected during a DRE, the doctor may recommend imaging such as a transrectal ultrasound, x-rays, or cystoscopy or a prostate biopsy.
Your husband's PSA is high due to some prostate disease
