70 Years. Occasional Heart Palpitations And Mild Shortness Of Breath When Physically Active. History Of Continuous Cold And Flu. Serious?

I'm experiencing periodic heart palpitations and mild shortness of breath when going up a couple flights of stairs, or walking briskly up a moderate grade. I've noticed this in the last 4-5 months. It is slowing me down when running to catch a bus, and impairs my ability to hike with friends. Since Dec I have had the flu and a cold almost continuous (constantly being reinfected by grandchildren). Would there be a connection? I'm reasonably fit, no conditions of note, and my doc says I have low LDL and high HDL. No drugs except for finasteride. I'm 70, 185 lbs, 6'2". Should I see a doctor about this?

Hi friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

Yes, you should see a doctor.
Probably it is asthma?

Shortness of breath on 2 flights of stairs is classified as grade 2 dyspnoea You need examination and investigations for both the heart and lungs.
For the lung – X-ray chest and Spirometry (lung function test) are necessary...
For the heart – EKG / ECHOcardiogram / TMT (Treadmill exercise ECG) may all be necessary.
General - LABORATORY work-up like haemoglobin & Kidney function need to be seen.

Low LDL & high HDL needs only congratulations! – blessing indeed!

Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
