6 Year Old With Asthma. On Ventolin And Beclate. Cough With Phlegm, Pinkish Rings Under The Eyes. What Are These?
Hello. My six year old son was diagnosed with asthma when he was 3 and is on one puff each of Ventolin and Beclate twice a day and 2.5ml of Zaditen syrup. He often gets a phlegmy cough , particularly after swimming, which he has now and I have noticed that he has pinkish rings under his eyes. He does not feel ill and has no fever . What could these rings mean?
Hi
Your child might be having Asthma with Atopy. In atopic patients they are more prone for allergic skin conditions like atopic dermatitis, allergic rhinitis. Those pinkish rings under eyes due to allergic manifestations. And you should avoid allergens which will aggravate asthma and atopic conditions and as you said swimming aggravates so you should avoid or restrict swimming. Continue the inhalations as advised.
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
first of all i advise you to do proper follow up of your child at asthma clinic, for proper asthma control.
i per my opinion salbutamol should be use as reliever therapy and not as preventive therapy for long term control,in which long acting beta 2 agonist like salmeterol is given along with inhalational corticocteroids,
Pinkish area under the eyes is allergic shiners which is usually seen in allergic rhinitis,
Wishing your child good health.
God bless.
