6 Month Old Child, Viral Fever. Prescribed Crocin Drops. Now Having Stomach Infection, Loose Motions. When Will The Loose Motions Subside?

My Son is 6months old, he has a viral fever recently about a week back for which our paedriatician advised us to give crocin drops in case of fever. His fever has gone but he now has loose motions. We showed another doctor as our regular doctor was unavailable. she has diagnosed stomach infection and has prescribed Taxim O forte dry syrup 3.5 ml after every 5 to 6 hours. After administring the dose today. His motions have become yellowish, slimy to sticky consistency. Is this normal?? When can we hope for normalization of his motions??? His diet includes the following, Breast feed , oats porridge, ragi porridge, plain mixed vegetable soup, mashed potatoes and dal, Nan 1 formula feed. We will be chaning to Nan 2 as he has completed 6 months, on doctors advice we will be starting Cerelac rice after his stomach infection clears. IS this diet sufficient??? Addtionally we also give zincovet and ferrium 5drops each daily once.

Hello rajrkn2003
Let us divide the problem into 3 groups
1. What to do now 2. diet 3. Future plans
Now.
Loose motions in this age group is divided into 3 groups
a. requiring antibiotics: if there is blood in the stool, then antibiotics are required
b. If there is dehydration: eyes & tongue not moist, not passing urine once in 8 hours, not active even for a single session.
c. We have to wait patiently:
If passing motion immediately after feeds, green in colour, froth, noise anus redness, pain while passing motions, straining for motion, mucus, and passing small quantities
In short this will settle in 4 to 14 days

Regarding other food you are giving, to me are not requried. You can go one step at a time, Rice oar ragi kanjee first boiled in water then boil it in cows milk and give ( after diarrhoea stops)
Then plain cows milk can be given.
For the future:
you can use formula feeds provided - you can follow the instruction given outside the box.
You should not reduce the number of scoops or increase the quantity of the water for each scoop. If your child is not consuming so many scoops means the formula is not suiting him.
They are called formulas, because, as in mathematics, we cannot change the formula ( one scoop 30 of water)
with regards
arulalan
Regarding vitamin drops if his height, weight and head circumference are appropriate to the age then we need not do anything
I find this answer helpful
