5 Year Old, Fever, Vomiting, Pain In Abdomen. CAT Scan, Ultrasound, Blood Work, Urine Tests Done. Underlying Cause?

My 5 year old granddaughter has been sick for 10 days. Started out with a fever and then vomiting and severe pain in abdomen. Has been to the ER 2 times and dr. 2 times. They have done a CAT scan and ultrasound of abdomen area, blood work, strep test, urine test and found nothing. She still isn t feeling well and complains of pain and won t eat. What else can we have done for some answers?

Hi there,

Sorry to hear that your granddaughter has been suffering for so long.

As you stated, she has been having a fever, vomiting and severe pain in her abdomen for 10 days. She has already had detailed testing done including a CAT scan which rules out lot of things.
Also, make sure her basic blood investigations are complete, she should have had liver function tests, amylase, lipase and a blood sugar level which they probably might have done in the ER.

Has she had a throat examination, sometimes ulcers in the mouth and posterior part of the pharynx that extend into the esophagus (food pipe) can cause such type of presentation.
I would suggest that if she continues to have pain in her abdomen, she might have to be evaluated by a gastroenterologist.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Dr. Sumeet.
