46 years old, irregular periods, coming once every two months. Will it hamper my fertility?

I am 46 years old and have been placed in a situation where I wanted to have children but was not in a relationship of marriage for several years now. I am now 46 years old and recently my periods have changed from predictable every month and in the last 8 months this has changed to bi- or tri monthly periods and I fear that any chance of having my own family is now impossible and this breaks my heart every time I think about it. Is this true?
