4 Year Old With Fever, Chills And Pain In The Legs And Arms. Concerned

Hi my 4.5 yr old son went from not having s fever but having chills, to an hour later a fever spikong to 104 with cold hands even though he was wearing sweat pants and a hooded sweater. It 4 hours for fever to come down to 100 degrees after Tylenolnwas administrated. Then his fever was completely gone from dinner time until about 730 pm. At 10:15pm gave more Tylenol for a fever of 101.5 and he was complaining of his arms legs and forehead hurting. Should I be concerned that it is something more of major concern or is it more likely a common body's response to fighting off something?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

Your child seems having this high fever most probably due to a virus.

The high grade fever is the cause for the chills.

If the high temperature is taken care, chills will subside.

You can give Tylenol every 6 th hourly depending on the presence of fever, and after this you can do tepid sponging with lukewarm water if there is high grade fever.

Give plenty of oral liquids and water.

Give soft diet to eat and provide adequate rest.

Consult your Pediatrician for the examination of the child to look for any focus of infection and for treatment advise.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.

Your child is having fever which is mostly viral in nature and settles in few days.
Body aches is a part of ongoing illness.
Continue with acetaminophen every 4 to 6 hourly till fever is above 100F.
Do tepid sponging if fever is above 102F.
Give plenty of fluids.fruit juices, vegetable soup and soft bland diet so as to maintain hydration and nutrition.

In case fever remains for more than 24 hours get him evaluated by pediatrician to see for any focus of infection and manage accordingly.
