Hi my son, 4 year old, had a fever of 101 three days ago. The next two days he didn t have fever but was weak and had diarrhea . Today, he woke up with pain on his legs below the knee . He didn t walk all day and continued having some diarrhea. He looks weak still and not walking thing worries me. When we ask where the pain is he points to the calves and feet . I went to a doctor On The first day when he had the fever. They checked blood and urine and didn t see any virus. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Hello I have gone through your complaints. Your child infection started with viral infection with the onset of fever which is a generalised manifestation and later it turned out to be a viral diarrhoea. The body pains and difficulty in walking is mainly due to hypokalemia that is due to potassium loses or due to hyponatremia that is due to sodium losses. You need to maintain hydration status and normal electrolyte balance by giving ORS. Prebiotics and probiotics along with zinc can be prescribed for faster control.
Thank you. Good day

Thank you for your query,
As your child is having gastroenteritis mostly it is of viral origin and the inability to walk may be due to severe myalgias or electrolyte imbalance like low serum potassium due to loss of potassium in loose stools.
Continue oral rehydration solutions to prevent dehydration and consult your Pediatrician to assess the child.
Hope i have answered your query.
