3 Year Old With Frequent Vomiting. Is This Serious?

Hi,
My son is 3 years old and for the last 3 months he keeps getting sick. I know toddlers get sick a lot but he keeps getting the same thing. Vomiting. He will wake up in the morning and tell me he's feeling sick then throw up, and all day throw up and wake up throughout the night throwing up. This can last for 8 days, he gets better for a week or so, then it comes back. We have seen doctors and they keep telling me that he keeps getting gastro and there's nothing I can do. How can a toddler get gastro 5 times in three months? Is there something else wrong that we're missing?

Thanks for posting your query here.

Based on your description, I think your son needs some investigations to find cause of his problems and frequent vomiting.

I don't agree with 'gastro' with the severe bouts of vomiting you've described.

Have you noticed any changes in behaviour/dizziness/swaying etc?
Does he get tummy pain before he starts throwing up?
What is the colour of his vomit?
Is his tummy distended during such episodes?

I would recommend following investigations: Ultrasound Abdomen, Preliminary blood tests - Hb, Total Count, Peripheral Smear, Renal and liver function tests.

He needs to be examined thoroughly by a Pediatrician and based on the results of the tests I've mentioned, further investigations may be needed to find cause (Gastric Volvulus, malrotation, band etc in abdomen)

I hope I have been able to guide you further.

Regards
