3 Year Old With Fever And Thick Mucus Discharge. Need To Go To The Doctor?

My 3 year old daughter has had fever on and off for the past 3 days. This morning her fever was at 103c. I gave her a Luke want bath and it lowered down. But her hands and feet are cold. Shud I take her to the hospital ? Or is there anything I can do at home to make her get better. She also has a cold, very thick mucus has been coming out today.

Dear user,

When body temperatures rise above 100 degrees F, there are increasing demands on the metabolism with increased need for water, calories and nourishment to keep the baby going. If the temperature goes above 102, there is a risk that a) the baby may be having a serious illness or b) she may throw what is known as a "fever fit" - an alarming situation that you don't want to see occurring in your precious baby. Please give her paracetamol syrup (dose is 2 ml/kg body weight) as and when her temp crosses 100 and sponge her with luke warm water from neck to knees - continuously, till you are able to go to her doctor. A warm bath is not a good substitute for a meticulous sponging.

In her current situation, give her extra fluids (water, milk, juices, buttermilk or whatever she likes and is able to swallow without nausea), light food, soup, and paracetamol as described above. Keep her away from the draft of wind or A/C, but there is no overwhelming need to smother her with blankets. Ask her if she is feeling chilly and wants to be covered, and if she doesn't, don't.

I would consider taking her to her doctor as early as possible if the fever doesn't come down in about six to eight hours.
