Hi Vasantha, Tb is suspected when there is recurrent respiratory infections, loss of weight, prolonged fever, enlarged lymph nodes, contact with tuberculosis,etc..
If none of these are present , you can ask your doctor why she asked for manoux test.I am sure she will explain to you.No Need to feel bad to ask your doubts from the treating doctor!Good luck

Pediatrician Dr. Rajiv K Khandelwal's  Response
Hi Vasantha,

Thank you for your query.

When high grage fever continues for this long the doctor has to investigate the cause of it. As your daughter had "minimal lung infection" last month it becomes all the more reason to find a cause. With this in mind the doctor has taken a Chest X-ray and a Mantoux test to rule out primary complex (the initial lesion in tuberculosis). He must have also ordered some blood tests. The Mantoux test reading is done 48-72 hours after injecting PPD in the forearm.

I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.

Wishing your son an early recovery.

Regards,

RKK

Hi Vasantha,
Thank you for your query,
There are many causes of lung infection like viral, bacterial and tuberculosis.
And the treatment for each cause will vary according to its causative organism.
The injection test for TB is called mantoux test and it is done to rule out TB if the doctor suspects depending on clinical profile or wants to rule out by looking for the result of the test.
Nothing to worry, wait for the reports of chest x ray and mantoux test result and the doctor will advise you the proper management.
Hope I have answered your query.
