How Much Milk Is To Be Fed To A One Week Old Baby?

Posted on Tue, 19 Feb 2019
Question: Hi, my daughter was born on 2nd March, she is a week old now and I had C section delivery. initially two days I didn't get milk however on 3rd and 4th day I got milk. since I started getting milk I stopped the formula milk and found that baby needs milk every 1 to 2 hour. I thought the baby's appetite is increasing but the weight has reduced from 3.2 to 2..9 kg. today when I checked the milk from breast was difficult to come when I pinched where as before it used to drip by its own. doctor has given me lactate two tablets twice in a day morning and night. please let me know how to know if the milk supply is enough or should I start the formula milk too.

Brief Answer:
Explained below.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

You have to feed your baby half hourly, one by one from both breasts. If milk is coming properly, the baby will not cry after feed, otherwise you have to give formula milk.

Promote breastfeeding, it will further increase breast milk production.

Hope you found this useful. Feel free to ask more information. Good luck.
