Hello! A Couple Of Weeks Ago I Went To The

Question: hello! a couple of weeks ago I went to the doctor with high blood pressure, the nurse took a urine sample and discovered there was blood in the urine. A week later, the doctor took another sample and there was still blood, he also tested it for infection but couldn't get anything to grow. A week after that I had a blood test, which was testing for FBC, HbA1C, LFT, U and E, eGFR and thyroid function. a few weeks after that they gave me an appointment to see the urologist on February 25th. I also phoned up about my blood test and they said everything came back as normal. I was born with one kidney on the left side, the other was covered in cysts and died I think. Also over the past year or so, I've had a slight pressure in my back on the left side, it's not painful and it only happens rarely. Since my scan is 2 months away, I was hoping you could make me feel better about what else it could be, I'm just worried in case it's something serious. Thank you.

Brief Answer:
It could be kidney stones

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

What you describe sounds like kidney stones. This is often best managed by NSAIDs and Tamsulosin if your kidney function tests are normal. Microscopic blood in the urine will typically also lead to cystoscopy to look for malignancy, especially if no stones are found on the scan.

Hope this helps.
