Will Withdrawal Bleeding Be Heavy After Discontinuing Yasminelle?

default
Posted on Wed, 8 Jul 2015
Question: Hi there. I've been taking yasminelle since mid may so that I could postpone my period for my holiday in XXXXXXX in Gran Canaria which is nearly over. I've still been experiencing period type pains, period related tension and soreness in my vagina as well as breakthrough bleeding. I've been thinking of withdrawing when I return from my holiday for a week? Will the withdrawal bleed be heavy? Will I have 1 or 2 periods?

Brief Answer:
Discontinue the pills when you are ready for menses

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

I have gone through your query. I would have liked to have some more information to have absolutely clear picture:

1. When was your last menstrual period?
2. What is the frequency of your menstrual cycle? For how many days you bleed during menstruation?
3. On which day of the menstrual cycle did you start the yasminelle tablets?
4. What is the dose of yasminelle tablets you are taking?

Yasminelle tablets contain Oestrogen and Progesterone preparations. Comparatively it is a low oestrogen preparation. For postponement of menses these tablets need be started at least 7 days prior to the expected menses. If delayed, up to 3 days prior to the expected menses, double dose of the tablets may be started. These tablets are to be continued depending up on how long the menses are to be delayed. After discontinuing the tablets, usually the menses appear after about 4-7 days. That bleeding is the period you will get. There need not be additional period after that. After about a month, you will have your normal menses.

Sometimes, while on the tablets, particularly if they are Progesterone dominant pills, break through bleeding is seen. Taking one additional pill whenever such bleeding appears takes care of the break through bleeding.

Yasminelle pills due to its low Oestrogen content and combination of Progestetional preparation with it does not cause heavy bleeding.

However, habit of such pills for postponement of menses is not advisable. It may interfere in the regularity of the menstrual cycle.

I feel, currently with the available information I can provide you this much information. This should solve your query. If you provide me with the further information I have requested for, we can discuss any sub-queries related to this.

Please be under no tension. Enjoy your vacation before you get your menses.

For any further query, I am available.
