Will I Conceive Naturally And What Can I Dot To Boost My Fertility?

Posted on Wed, 22 Jan 2014
Question: Hi I have been trying to conceive for quite a few months. The problem is I am 38 and have never ever been pregnant, I was never sexually active until I was 26, even when I was active I only had sex maybe once or twice a month is is only the past 12 months where I have had intercourse I would say once every 4-6 weeks. I am really worried that I will never get pregnant as I have never caught before. I have attached an ultrasound scan report, My GP and Gynaecologist are happy with the report and say there is no reason why I cant conceive naturally. I ovulate regular, my husband wont have a semen analysis. The problem is my husband drinks within the alcohol guidelines and smokes cigarettes, he currently smokes about 30 a day, he is trying to cut them down by half, so hopefully this will improve sperm if he does have a problem. I am currently overweight at 17 stone and I am making lifestyle changes to lose weight for health of me and hopefully my baby. Do you see we should be able to conceive naturally if we both stick with our lifestyle changes? Is there anything my husband or I can take to boost our fertility or is it basically just down to us both having more intercourse. Many thanks XXXX PCOS has been ruled out by Gynaecologist

Brief Answer: semen analysis , intercourse during fertile period Detailed Answer: Hello dear XXXXXXX XXXX. Thanks for your query at XXXXXXX I understand your concern. Yes , you should be able to conceive naturally. I have gone through your query and reports there seems no pathological problem that can prevent you from conceiving . As there is no pathology , You can increase chances of getting conceived naturally by participating in intercourse more during fertile period . Usually fertile days are 10 to 18 th day of menstrual cycle if its regular 30 day cycle. This is period you have most chances of getting pregnant if you participate in intercourse. There are also other methods where you can know ovulation time like rise in basal body temperature and change in cervical mucus that becomes thin, slippery, stretchy, and clear, similar to the consistency of egg whites. This is the most fertile stage. You and your husband are doing excellent job by modifying your life style. This will increase your health and chances of pregnancy also. You have done all investigations that are expected by you, now it is time for your husband to get semen analysis done, this test will determine any problem with sperms. My recommendation for you at this stage would be - get semen analysis of your husband - participate in more times in intercourse during fertile period We can discuss further after above reports and also it would be more helpful if you could upload any other lab reports that you already have done till now. Hope I answered your query. If you need any further information we can discuss in follow up query. Regards.

Brief Answer: no specific therapy, leafy vegetables, healthy diet Detailed Answer: Hello XXXXXXX XXXX, Thanks for your reply. Its good hear from you that all your work up is normal . So chances of naturally conceiving are still present for you. There is no specific therapy to boost up sperm count. But your husband can increase healthy sperm count by decreasing alcohol and cigarette smoking which your husband is already trying to do. Avoiding stress heat, Healthy diet and regular exercise also have impact on sperm motility and count. When it comes to sperm health, minerals like zinc & selenium, amino acids, Vitamin C and Vitamin E are very crucial to sperm health. Leafy vegetables are very rich source in above mentioned vitamins and minerals. Hope I answered your query. Regards.
