Question: Wife has GI bleeds, apparently in colon. Results in low hemoglobin, has required several transfusions. We have script for octerotide acetate.

Dos this medicine prevent/heal bleeds, and/or increase her hemoglobin?

As per your query somatostatin is a vasoconstrictor.It constricts the blood vessels running in intestines.As the size of the lumen of tube of blood vessels decreases the amount of blood lost is decreased that's why she has been prescribed octerotide.
It has no direct effect on levels of hemoglobin neither does it heals any bleeding point.
