Hi,
Thanks for writing to HCM. This is Dr. Ashish Verma, a general surgeon, answering to your query.
That liquid that you will take the night before is to clean your bowel...it will literally flush out your bowel clean so that during colonoscopy the vision is clear inside...
So after taking that liquid, drink plenty of water or you may have huge water loss and dehydration ensues. The bowel movements will continue till the morning.
Next day during the scopy a tube will be passed per anum...and air will be pushed inside to distend the bowel to help visualizing the bowel. So after the procedure you will pass a lot of flatus...to expell that air.
You may also experience a little pain when the scope is negotiated through the curves of the bowel. Rest all be uneventful.
Hope, that I have answered to all your queries. If you have further queries, I will be glad to answer them.
Regards
Dr. Ashish Verma
