Question: Why have I started waking up to urinate almost every day?

Hi, I'm 22 years old and since a couple of months ago I have started waking up often to go urinate.

I went to my my GP who just told me not to drink any liquids for 2-3 hours prior to going to sleep.
This usually works but it's very difficult to not drink any liquids for such a long period prior to going to sleep. Particularly as I tend to get dry mouth. Often even small sips of water prior to going to sleep will be enough to wake me up at night.

This did not happen before no matter how much liquids I drank, and I have not had any significant lifestyle changes when the problem began so I was wondering what could be causing it?

Thanks for query.
Based on the facts that yo have posted Nocturnal frequency (Nocturia)that you have needs to be investigated .

I shall be happy if you can post me more details to help me in making precise comments
1) Are you Diabetic ?
2) Do you have any other urinary symptom like burning urination associated with Nocturia?
3) Are you taking any medication ?
4) Do you have urgency for urination ?
5) Is there any stress factor that has cropped in your life since very recently?

In absence of any major health issue the cause of Nocturia in adult age group is what is called as Over Active Bladder(OAB) syndrome.However it needs to be investigated to trace out the cause for Nocturia .

Consult qualified Urologist for clinical and digital rectal examination and get following basic tests done to confirm the diagnosis.
1) Urine routine and culture.
2) Ultrasound scanning of abdomen and pelvis
3) Blood Sugar Level estimation
4)Urodynamic study of bladder

In the mean time continue restricting fluid intake after evening .Start taking XXXXXXX Merabegrone once daily .

Further treatment will depend upon result of these tests and final diagnosis.

1) Not diabetic

2) Nope

3) Have been taking ibuprofen at night for a separate issue for over 2 years but the urination at night problem only started a couple of months ago

I have also taken penicilin for 10 days in 4 sessions due to multiple tonsillitis infections in past 7 or 8 months, which is roughly when I started getting urination at night problems too but the problem is present even when I'm not ill.

4) Yeah, I definitely wake up due to urgency to urinate rather than waking up for another reason and deciding to urinate

5) I struggle with assessing my own stress levels to be honest. I do think I'm more stressed than usual though. The problem started when I returned to university, so may be a stress related factor

start taking Merabegrone or Darifenacin once daily before going to bed .If problem persists consult qualified Urologist and get the tests done suggested earlier .

It would take 10 days to observe results of medicine and will need to take medicines for 3-4 months to get the issue resolved completely .
