Why Did The Hip Lipoma Get Larger And Inflamed With Discomfort Down The Left Groin Area?

Question: My husband, XXXXXXX thought he had several lipomas on his body when examined by a General and Vascular Surgeon a year or so ago. He said it was better not to do anything about them as long as they caused any other symptoms. Recently the hip lipoma has gotten larger and inflamed with discomfort down tht left groin area. We had it examined with our GP that we go to and was given 10 days of antibiotics and sent to a surgeon locally in XXXXXXX NY, four days ago.The Dr/Surgeon came in and took one look and said that because the lopoma was inflamed it wasn't a lipoma but a cust and proceeded to cut out the cyst. Then he found there was no cyst, or fatty mass, just blood! This sounded very strange to us, but he told us to have blood work done and have a CT scan. Today we got the CT scan and will see the surgeon again next Thursday for the results and dignosis. What do you think should have been done? And does this read like a sound way to determine what to do further with this growth? (Donna)and (Richard Petersen, 89 years old)
Does it sound like a liposarcoma? If it does, what do you feel are the next steps for my husband to pursue?

Brief Answer:
MRI of hip and needle biopsy of the lipoma of the hip is recommended

Detailed Answer:
Hello there,
Thanks for asking,

After hearing your husbands history, the first thing to be done was an MRI of hip followed by a needle biopsy of the hip lipoma.

If the biopsy test confirms as liposarcoma then surgery is the treatment of choice.

After surgery radiation therapy should be given to prevent recurrence of liposarcoma.

Let me know if I can assist you further.
