When Is The Time To Take Meprate For PCOD?

Question: I was on medication till my last menstrual cycle for treatment of polycystic ovarian disease. Doctor gave me novelon. But on the fifth day of my last cycle we had unprotected coitus and took levonorgestrel 1.5mg tablet on the sixth day. From 12th day bleeding started which is still continuing till today (14th day). I was supposed to take meprate 10mg starting from 16th for 10 days. But i m not sure that should,i,take it now or from the 16th,day of next cycle.plz help.

Thanks for the query to HCM ,
As you have taken levonorgestrel 1.5mg after unprotected sex on day 6 o fetch cycle and the bleeding which si a withdrawal bleed has just started and its been just 2 days , there is no point taking MPA tabs hence in this cycle for next 10 days as in absence of endometrium or oestrogenisation it shall not work.
The day of bleeding should be taken as fresh LMP and day 1 of fresh cycle and then from this day on day 16-26 you can take your MPA.
The withdrawal bleed indicates no pregnancy.
Also if you are a PCOS patient and pregnancy is still not desired then it would still be best to continue Novelon till as long as you don't desire pregnancy Unless you have developed endometrial hyperplasia and found on endometrial biopsy examination,

I was feeling weak and dizzy using novelon so my doctor prescribed me MPA tabs for next cycle. Which one do you prefer i should take. I was also diagnosed with miroadenomyosis.

hello,
I have always preferred TAB GINETTE 1OD FOR 21 DAYS for PCOS. its a low dose pill and has minimal side effects of dizziness or headache. MPA per se alone shall not help and anovulation may not be treated at all .
Also concomitant weight reduction is also necessary to decrease insulin resistance.
Adenomyosis is unrelated to PCOS.

Thanks sir. What is the timeline that you expect before i could be completely cured of PCOS with the current treatment i m having including MPA tabs. It had been greatly useful so far to discuss with you.

You need to understand that PCOS is like diabetes, it can be controlled and not cured completely , but a healthy weight reduction and regular oc pill use for at least 6 months can decrease your androgen levels and promote ovulatory cycles to resume after 6 months of treatment. Also fertility shall increase once ovulation resumes.
