When Is Colestipol Hydrochloride Prescribed?

default
Posted on Mon, 23 Feb 2015
Question: My doctor recently prescribed colestipoll HCL granules to lower my high (530) triglycerides, but I'm reading articles where it can actually raise triglyceride levels, so I'm concerned. Also, I have started having a severe backache since starting this medication and wondered if it could be a side effect and how dangerous it could be. It does not feel like a common backache and hurts all the way through the body and is continuous all day.

Brief Answer:
Colestipol HCL granules will lower bad cholestrol/triglycerides

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have studied your case.

Colestipol HCL granules will lower bad cholesterol/triglycerides. LDL cholesterol is not good for vessels and colestipol will lower it, so do not worry about rising of triglycerides due to colestipol.

Yes there are side effects of this medicine which include muscle pain.
Musculoskeletal pain aches and pains in the extremities, joint pain and arthritis, and backache have been reported.
Muscle pain is not dangerous but you have to decide whether it's becoming out of control on not.

Other common side effects include
Constipation, stomach/abdominal pain, gas, nausea, and vomiting may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, then consult your doctor.

Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.
