What would cause a recurrent red, skin peeling rash in between the buttocks?

Posted on Wed, 20 Nov 2019 in Skin Hair and Nails
Question: Hello there back in Nov i have red spotted rash in butt crack and i have had this for 2 yrs now goes away with clotrimazole and betamethasone from drs! After 2 wks it would return with peeling skin once again! I since spoke to dr on this website and she told me that it was persistant fungal and get oral diflucan from dr which i took for 7 wks didnt return... i was also told wash skin 2 x daily and to use A& D ointment to keep sweat away and it worked til yesterday... i noticed skin small area in butt crack is peeling again is this something else and not fungal as what was mentioned! Is there something over the counter that can be used or is this psoriasis? Very annoyed about this returning once again! Thanks XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Candidal Intertrigo is the likely possibility

Detailed Answer:

Perhaps you have Intertrigo which is inflammation of body folds, often accompanied by an overgrowth of the yeast, candida. Candidal Intertrigo presents as raw, red areas of body fold with satellite red, spotty lesions. Sweat, heat, and moisture are provoking factors for Intertrigo. Response to topical and oral antifungals suggests that you most likely have a candidal Intertrigo.

I request you to kindly upload a few images of the affected area in "Reports Section" so that I am able to have a look and guide you better.

If it is so recurrent I would suggest you use an antifungal dusting powder e.g Clotrimazole 1%powder, twice daily. It would keep the folds dry, and, being an antifungal, would also prevent the growth of the yeast. A powder is better than an ointment as it would absorb moisture and therefore prevent overgrowth of yeast.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Brief Answer:
Regarding Intertrigo

Detailed Answer:

The pic is not clear at all. I suggest you to use clotrimazole 1% cream for a week or 10 days since you say that it worked for you in the past. Thereafter you may continue with the antifungal dusting powder for maintenance to keep the condition at bay. 1% Clotrimazole dusting powder may be available at a drug store near you.

Hope I have answered your question.
