my sister fell on ice and exray showed no breakage but her aprn said it may be a torn ligament. what test will show for sure

Well looking into your problem I would like to tell you that MRI is the best modality to assess soft tissue injury and ligament tear . It can very well tell the extent of ligament injury . Take care.
