Question: Hi,

My wife is pregnant and currently her 5th month is going on. Both of us have to travel at end of her 6th month or in 30th Week. As my home town journey via train is around 33 hour, please let know how much continuous journey I can do. I am planning for break journey after 18 or 26 hour.

Also what precautions should I take into considerations. Does Air travel will be safe option due to sudden pressure while landing.

Brief Answer:
Air travel is preferred option

Detailed Answer:
Hello sir,
I understand your concern.

In my opinion in a pregnancy without any complications like placenta praevia, recurrent miscarriages and others long journey might be allowed in 2 nd trimester ie., from 13 weeks to 28 weeks.

So as you are in 30 weeks and no complications you can travel.

Air journey is preferred option.Sudden landing or take off have no negative effects on pregnancy.

Air journey is not advised in a pregnant woman with sickle cell anaemia patient. But it is safe in other pregnant woman.

Rail journey is second option and road route is last option due to much jerks.

10 to 12 hours of continuous travel might be safe.

And during the journey take care not to avoid food and fluids .As unknowingly the intake will be decreased during the journey.

Prolonged sitting during the journey causes swelling of feet but need not worry it subsides after taking rest.

Hope this satisfies your query.

Best regards....Dr.srilatha.
