Question: What Liver Enzymes levels signify serious liver damage? I am getting a lot of different information.

I agree with the church, the numbers are increased but do not warrant a biopsy normally.
An ultrasound to take a non invasive look at the liver can be the next step.
The normal AST and ALt can vary slightly from one lab to the next but in general the upper limit of ast is 40 and the alt 56.
A mild to mod increase would be defined as two to three times the upper limit.
An ultrasound or other non invasive imaging (eg ct) would visualize the liver and would give a possible indication as to the cause.
Most common causes are : (a)infection,
(b) non alcoholic fatty liver- build up of fat in the liver due to diet and inactivity, can lead to inflammation if no changes made
(c)side effect of medication eg statins
(d)trauma
(e)mass in the liver
(f)alcohol
