Question: How serious is a ruptured disc at c6 or c7; what does the surgery entail, and what is the recovery process? Will I have full mobility of my neck and no pain after the recovery period?

A ruptured cervical spine disc (or herniated disc) may result in serious symptoms such pain in arm(s), leg(s), numbness, muscles weakness and in severe cases, difficulties holding things, walking, stiffness etc.

Surgery aims to remove this ruptured disc, decompress neural structures and create stabilization of the affected segment of the spine.

If everything goes okay (spine surgery may result in complications too), there is a short recovery period ( days to a couple of weeks) and full physical activity may initiate after a couple of months.

If hardware will be used to create stability, minor mobility restrictions of the neck may be present.
