Brief Answer:
The antirabies vaccine should be given in the deltoid muscle.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX Hi & Welcome.

I appreciate your concern for your beloved brother XXXXXXX

Well, the antirabies vaccine like VAXIRAB is injected in the deltoid muscle of the arm as a prophylaxis (preventive measure) against rabies following a dog bite on day 0, 3, 7 and 14.

So, he was given the first dose of the vaccine in the right place i.e., deltoid muscle of the right arm.
Beside VAXIRAB he should also receive Inj. Tetanus toxoid along with the wound care or dressing.

Thank You Fore Your Reply.
I have some Specific Questions.

1. My mom says when she was Bitten by a dog few years Back than Doctor Gives her two doses on day 0 (one dose in the right and one in the left arm (deltoid muscles), and then one dose on each of days 7 and 21 into the deltoid muscle.

But In My Brother Case Doctor Gave him only One Dose in the right hand upper arm (Deltoid Muscles).

So One dose on Right hand is sufficient? as my mother receive 2 doses on day zero.one in left arm one in right arm..

2. My brother Took Teatnus Vaccine 2 month before. should he again take Teatnus vaccine?

3.Shoud he need Rabies immunoglobin injection with the vaccines??

P.S:- He did not Bleed but there was the red scratch on his finger.

And what is "Inj."? Its has been arround 14 hours when dog bitten him..

waiting of your response.
pls clarify...

thank you...

Brief Answer:
The next dose should be taken in the other arm.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX Hi

Thanks for your compliments.
I am glad that my advice helped you and your brother in getting the treatment of dog bite.

Well, it is fine if he continues to take the WHO recommended 5 dose schedule of vaccination. The vaccine can be taken in the deltoid muscle of the opposite arm on an alternate day basis.

As long as your brother takes the vaccines he should not take the following drugs like Immunosuppressives and Chloroquine (which is used to treat malaria).

Hope to have answered your query.

Good night.
