Question: Curious as to the specific effects of extreme heat on Concerta (Methylphenidate ER) and Lamictal (Lamotrigine). Prescription pills were stored in hot delivery truck for upwards of a week. Are these pills likely unusable, or even XXXXXXX to take?

Hi XXXXXX
Thanks for coming to health care magic
Concerta (osmoticaly controlled release methyl phenidate) stability is maintained when stored at 25 degree Celsius (77 degree Fahrenheit); protect from humidity.

Lamictal: store at 25 degree Celsius ; excursions are permitted to 15--30 degree Celsius; protect from light.

Ideally speaking such tablets should be unusable and can cause idiosyncratic or dose related side effects.

Side effects could range from as expected common or uncommon , and minor or major side effects of such drugs in normal storage conditions . Frequency of such events depend on age, what other drugs individual is consuming, other metabolic status of patient etc.

But, strictly speaking better not to take risk because every drug is poison provided it is taken at appropriate dose, dosage, and conditions, though one can encounter no significant events under such scenario.

Hope your question is addressed
