Question: effect of cilnidipine on renal cysts having a gfr of 35.(hypertension fluctuating between 140/58 and 160/65) and now on diovan 320mg., aldactone 25mg. tenormin 25mg. lipitor 20mg. flecainade 100mg. and coumadin 4-6mg.

According to studies Cilnidipine is best avoided in renal cyst disease as it has shown to increase the proliferation of renal cysts. This is in case of Polycystic kidney disease.
However in case of cysts due to chronic kidney disease it can be used, it has shown beneficial effects which includes reduction of proteinuria

How does one differentiate between cysts caused by" chronic kidney disease" and cysts caused by " renal cyst disease" ?
In both cases there are several cysts in the kidneys : polycystic.
What methods of diagnostic are used to decide ? as this would be the criteria whether to use or not Cilnipidine.

If there are multiple cysts on ultrasonography in both kidneys with enlarged size of the kidneys then it is most likely to be polycystic kidney disease.
If there are multiple cysts on ultrasonography and normal or small kidneys then it is most likely to be cysts of chronic kidney disease.
The method to diagnose is ultrasonography and ct abdomen with contrast.
However for the benefit of dount, if I were to be your doctor I would have avoided Clinidipine.
