Brief Answer:
just wait

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to health care magic,

I am Dr Sriram Nathan who has an experience of treating more than a thousand patient of giddiness but let me tell you that every patient is different and unique.

At the offset let me also tell you that any treatment works only because of the extremely wonderful capacity of the brain to adapt and create a sensation of balance.

Coming to your father who is having multiple risk factors like old age, cerebral atrophy, cholesterol all of which can in isolation can cause giddiness; it is thus a mighty task for control of giddiness. But rest assured in time all will be controlled and taken care.

In the meanwhile you can do these:
-I would usually advice a full ENT work up including Audiometry, Electronystagmography and giddiness evaluation. If you have done these kindly revert back to me with the reports.

-If the above tests are normal then all you need to do is wait and watch for the brain to adapt and recover

-You of course need to upgrade your anti vertigo drugs in consultation with a good otoneurologist or an ENT surgeon with good experience in treating giddiness. I would usually start with betahistine which is very effective in controlling the episode and safe. You doctor should know about this.

-Stugeron forte or cinnarazine is usually given in a dose range of 25 mg or 75 mg depending on the control and not 20mg as you have mentioned. The higher dose should also be given in consultation with your doctor only.

-Avoid any sudden movements like looking up or down

-Avoid going to any dark or unfamiliar places

-Keep your mind active and sharp but do not do any sudden movements. Be slow and steady and your father will definitely recover.

-Finally do not advice complete bed rest as this will delay the recovery. Instead let him be as active as possible.

-Search on the internet for VESTIBULAR REHABILITATION EXERCISES which should be done in the guidance of a good ENT.

-In time he will certainly recover so be patient. Let him also try meditation and yoga which will reduce the stress on his brain and calm him to a certain extent and eventually help him recover.

-He needs also to continue and control his diabetic and other medications like cholesterol.

-Try physiotherapy under a good physiotherapist to enable him to walk at least with support.

-Continue the multivitamin medications although I would generally recommend injectable ones for faster and effective recovery. Your general physician will know about this.

Hope this helps and if you have any more queries you can get back to me

Hope your father gets well soon

regards
