What Is The Cause And Treatment For Sleep Apnea?

default
Posted on Fri, 5 Dec 2014
Question: Have sleep apnea problem
I had snoring problem since last 10 years but couldn’t realise problem.
I woke up due to breathing problem at night. Deep breadth solved problem for a night and all became normal. After checking with doctor, sleep apnea was discovered 12 months back.
Medication for diabetic and BP are continue which may came due as side effect of sleep apnea according to me.
I continue to gain weight even after taking low quantity of food. (2 chapati and handful rice)
Have to use CPAP machine at night since last 1 year.
Without CPAP machine can’t sleep at night.
CPAP machine is not comfortable, have frequent itching and need to clean it around 6-7 times in a night.
Due to CPAP can’t sleep properly at night so have to use Aryudic medicine for sleep.
After consulting doctor, come to know that the problem is due to settled fat content in neck / throat. Due to which, it started to block air flow and all complications started due to it.
Feel weakness throughout a day.
I walk for 2 to 2.5 hours a day. Sometimes walk multiple times a day.
Food intake has decreased.
I feel like having gas problem & heavy stomach.
I have noticed multiple complications arise due to sleep apnea one after one.

Brief Answer:
endoscopy, sleep studies.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns. The symptoms reported seem concerning and I will recommend that you see a doctor and get evaluated.

As per your details, past history, reports, there is a possibility of simple snoring, which requires evaluation.

I advise you to evaluate with detailed ENT examination, diagnostic nasal endoscopy (nose related- deviated septum, turbinate hypertrophy), diagnostic nasopharyngoscopy- throat-chronic tonsillitis, elongated vvula, throat cicumference. sleep studies- to know the number of apneas during sleep.

I also suggest you to continue exercises, BP, Diabetes medications.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.

I have done tests related to nose / nasal which were normal. Attached reports of tests. (Can't attach x-ray). I have also attached old prescriptions and treatment which I had since 2012

I believe, I am facing problem due to narrow passage in neck, I am facing problem in breathing.

On seating posture, I can breath normally. There is no problem when I sit.
But when I lay-down, I face problem in breathing. And major problem when I asleep.
Without CPAP, during sleep, I have to keep mouth open and due to it, throat and tung got dry in around half hour. Due to which can't I sleep without CPAP machine at night.

Any permanent / longterm solution of it? Any operation and/or lifestyle change which can help me.

NASAL ENDOSCOPY, SLEEP STUDIES.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for considering my answer and for your follow up.

As per your reports (complete blood picture, immunoglobulins, absolute eosinophiloc count and chest physician prescription ). No where there is a ENT surgeon's consultation or no investigation from ENT side.

I advise you go ahead for investigations, I have already mentioned to know the exact cause for your snoring and apnea so that it can be managed surgically.
