Brief Answer:
Possibility of polycystic ovarian syndrome
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query on HealthCareMagic.
You have mentioned that you have a history of
irregular periods. Delayed menstrual cycles are expected in background of history of irregular periods.
Your doctor has prescribed you
progesterone.
Progesterone is the hormone which will start your periods.
However, the periods are occurring only after taking hormonal treatment.
Another thing that you have mentioned is presence of 'multifollicular' ovary.
With a history of irregular periods, multifollicular ovary, and absence of ovulation there is possibility of polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS).
Polycystic ovaries is a condition in which the ovaries do not release egg in each cycle because the follicles do not mature to release egg.
Due to inability of the follicles to mature, no egg is released and thus conceiving becomes difficult.
Before taking any medication, you need to get appropriate investigations to confirm/rule out polycystic ovaries.
FSH/LH ratio, serum levels of
testosterone and insulin levels are some of the tests which are done for
polycystic ovarian disease.
You need to consult your gynecologist for prescription of these tests.
If the disease turns out to be PCOS, very effective treatment is available for this condition.
If you have more queries, I will be glad to answer.
