What Is The Cause And Symptoms Of Radon Poisoning?

default
Posted on Mon, 7 Jul 2014
Question: I have just been told I have symptoms of radon poisoning and I should look on line to see what all the symptoms are. I have not found lists of symptoms to compare what I have been feeling. My Dr. says my central nervous system is being effected, endocrine, auto immune and digestion.
Can you tell me what to look for in myself to have tested. My house has been tested very high radon so I don't have to find the house symptoms just the people symptoms.
thank you

Brief Answer:
Symptoms are related to duration of exposure....

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

This is a tough question to answer.

Radon is a radioactive element. It is used mainly in radiation industry and there have been few cases of accidental exposures. The ill effects from this element is predominantly due to the ionizing radiations from it.

Clinically observable symptoms have been recorded during acute poisoning (exposure). Exposed individuals presented with nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, disorientation, skin rashes. It also affected blood cells which led to easy bruising, spontaneous bleeds and increased susceptibility to infections.
On the long run, radon poisoning symptoms are subtle and not well documented. However they are strongly associated with cancers - lung and blood cancers.

I read through the details you submitted with diligence. As they overlap with multiple common medical conditions, I am not very sure if they are related to radon poisoning. I would like to review your lab reports to comment further.

Hope this answers your question.

Regards
