What Is Marginal Cord Insertion?

default
Posted on Tue, 21 Mar 2017
Question: How serious is marginal insertion of the cord? I had this discovered at 20 weeks and have been told to come back for a scan at 32 weeks to see if there are any affects. Should I be worried or is this condition common and usually no serious implications

marginal insertion usually does not cause any problems.

Detailed Answer:
Hi there,
Dr Purushottam Neurgaonkar here. I welcome you to HCM VIRTUAL CLINIC. I have gone through your question, and I think I have understood your concern. I will suggest you the best possible treatment options.

1 ) First of all do not panic.

2 ) I would like to know about your sonography reports. If you can upload the same, it will be helpful to guide you further.

3 ) Usually umbilical cord is inserted in the center of the placenta. But even if it is inserted at the margin , usually there is no serious about it.

4 ) If you have no history of bleeding per vaginal then you need not worry about it.
Please trust in your treating doctor. You are rightly advised to get follow up USG done.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if needed.
I hope this answer helps you.
Thanks.
