Hi and thank you for asking!
I read your query and understood your concerns.

The doctor has ordered an ultrasound examinationof carotid artery to evaluate them and to exclude any artery blockage. Carotid artery plaques (blockage) is a manifestation of atherosclerosis and is best evaluated with doppler ultrasound examinations.

There are many risk factors for atherosclerosis including:
- hypertension
- sedentary lifestyle
- rheunatismal disease (poliarthropathy)

Since you are at high risk for developing atherosclerosis carotid ultrasound should be done especially if you have experienced headache, dizziness, vertigo etc.

Hope this was of help!
Wish you health!
