What Is Sulfameth/Trimethoprim Prescribed For?
Question: Hello Dr.,
I went to the urologist and he took a swab from the clear discharge from my urethra.. The Dr.'s assistant called me 3 days later stating the lab results found an infection however she never mentioned what infection it was.. The Dr. Called in an antibiotic called sulfameth/trimthprim 800/160 to my local pharmacy that samw day.. My main question is what can the infection be if this medication was perscribed? Please advise

It is a broad spectrum antibiotic which cover most of the gram -ve micro-organisms that causes UTI including E.Coli, Chlamydia and Mycoplasma. I wouldn't be able to guess the exact organisms here. If you have a culture report with you, that should specify the infective organism.
