What Is Sandostatin Shots Used For?
Question: I had Whipple's Procedure in October 2015, my surgeon prescribed Sandostatin Injections to be administered every 28 days, under the care of my GP. What is the purpose of Sandostatin, and how long do I have to receive it please?

Actually many anastomosis are done in whipple surgery like intestine to stomach, bile duct to intestine , pancreatic duct to intestine. These anastomosis are at risk of leakage especially that of pancreatic duct. To prevent this leakage sandostatin is given.
Actually sandostatin inhibits secretion of pancreatic enzymes and thus keep the anastmosis at rest so that it can heal and this is how it prevents leakage.
It is usually given for 7 days post operative. I could not understand whybit is given to you every 28th day. So please discuss this with your doctor regarding the duration of sandostatin.
