Brief Answer:
It is a neurological condition

Detailed Answer:
Hi again
XXXXXXX Gehrigs Disease is a demyelination disease of the nervous ystem. It is a condition in which both upper and lower motor neurons are affected. The main symptoms include muscle weakness and fasciculations (involuntary muscle contraction of a muscle or a group of muscles).
It results in atrophy (wasting) of the muscles, spasticity (tightness) of the muscles, and difficulty in speaking and swallowing food.

Treatment is usually symptomatic. It is rapidly fatal.

Brief Answer:
I would think miney stroke

Detailed Answer:
Hi again

I would also think it was a miney stroke since it is more common than XXXXXXX Gehrig's. Symptoms usually overlap thus clinically but there are some differences. Stroke is sudden onset while XXXXXXX gehrigs develops over a period of time. The person starts to recover after a few days in stroke, in XXXXXXX Gehrigs the person does not recover and the health condition worsens. In stroke the usual symptom is focal neurological deficit not pertaining to all the muscles and limbs, in XXXXXXX Gehrigs all muscles get affected. Since it cannot be confirmed if it was a stroke or XXXXXXX Gehrigs, testing is essential.

Like I said XXXXXXX Gehrigs is rapidly fatal and the symptoms are inconspicuous in the first year. During this period diagnosis is mostly based on tests. The usual test done in electromyography in atleast three body parts (e.g limbs, cranial, paraspinal muscles).

If it is a stroke, it can be found on brain imaging like CT scan or MRI unless the lesion is small or you went to the doctor late. I am not sure which tests you have undergone. The test for XXXXXXX Gehrigs is diffusion tensor (DT) - MRI.

You have the option of uploading the reports of the tests. If you can upload them I will be better able to help.

Hope it helps.
