What Does Weight Gain After Hysterectomy Indicate?

default
Posted on Fri, 31 Mar 2017
Question: I had an hysterectomy in 2012 and my doctor never discussed progesterone with me only estradiol. I have gained around 15 pounds since then and I had always been small. Why didn't he discuss the importance of this hormone? I have started the Pure cream and I love the way it makes me feel. Just really want to know the correct dosage for me. I have researched and I think this hormone would benefit my quality of life.

Brief Answer:
Explanation is given below....

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear and thanks for your query to healthcare magic.

I have read your question and understand you.

Estradiol is used to relive symptoms of such as :

-hot flashes
-night sweet
-vaginal atrophy
-Sleep disturbances
-bone issue (osteoporosis) and a few others

Meanwhile, progesterone is used as a hormone replacement therapy for menopausal women to protect women form endometrial malignancy(inner layer of uterus), but not for any other reason.

Hence, since you have already undergone hysterectomy back in 2012, you don't need to use Progesterone .

Hope I was helpful and please write me back for any other doubts you may have .

Best regards

Thank you for your quick response. I do believe what you are saying to be true. I do have trouble sleeping and I do get night sweats periodically but don't last long. I guess I just needed to know if there was something for my libido as well. I had read about progesterone and I have been using it now for about 4 weeks. I have been sleeping better and the sex with my husband is great. The Estrace Cream I had been taking, I stopped after about 1 year because of the scary side effects of cancer:( Also like I said, I have gained some weight, especially around my waist. I don't like this at all. Oh I do bootcamp 3 to 4 days a week and still cant lose any weight. thank you for your advise:)

Brief Answer:
You can continue with oral progesterone

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear again!

If you feel better after progesterone use than you can continue with it.

Use of progesterone is better than estrogen to treat sleep disturbances , hot flashes and bone formation .

Dosage of progesterone is about 300 mg per day to treat hot flushes and sleep disturbances .

You doesn't need to afraid about malignancy from the use of estradiol because you have done hysterectomy.

Hope i was helpful and please feel free for further discussion.

Bets regards
