Question: MY14 YEAR OLD SON WAS RECENTLY DIAGNOSED WITH TWISTED KIDNEY. HE WAS TAKEN TO EMERGENCY FOR BLOOD IN THE URINE, AFTER A BAD HIT IN HOCKEY. AND SENT HOME WITH A DIAGNOSIS OF UTI, WE WENT TO THE GP A FEW DAYS LATER AND ORDERED AN ULTRA SOUND AND FROM THERE SENT US TO A UROLOGIST WHO ORDERED A CT SCAN. THEY SCAN SHOWED A TWISTED KIDNEY. WE WENT BACK TO THE FAMILY DR FOR BLOOD WORK FOR ESR, TO LOOK FOR AUTO IMMUNE DISEASE, AS MY SON HAD KAWASAKI'S DISEASE. THESE TEST HAVE COME BACK NEGATIVE.

I WOULD JUST LIKE TO KNOW IF YOU FEEL WHETHER OR NOT HE SHOULD SEE A PEIDATIRC NEPHROLOGIST, OR CAN HE LIVE A HEALTHY LIFE WITH A TWISTED KIDNEY

Thanks for your query,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that your 14 years old son who sustained injury to is kidney while playing is detected on ultrasound scanning and CT scan to have twisted kidney .

You are worried about whether he would have normal heathy life with this kidney.

I would state with 100 % confidence that he will not have any problem in having normal life with this kidney.

We come across many patient who have malrotated kidney since birth which are detected as an accidental finding on ultrasound scanning during routine scanning for some other reason.and still have normal life.

Please do not worry there should not be any problem in future as for as functioning of kidney is concerned.
