Brief Answer:
Any infection of urinary tract to be treated and PSA repeated as below

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. The ultrasound scan shows that the prostate gland is moderately enlarged. It measures 63 cc and this is significant. This type of enlargement is usually seen in benign enlargement of prostate and less likely in cancer.

2. PSA is prostate specific antigen and is a marker for prostate cancer. This should be less than 4 ng/ ml. Since it is 13 ng/ ml therefore it is raised above normal. If he has got PSA done in the past then that is also to be compared. The PSA can also be raised in infections of the urinary tract and this can show a false high PSA value.

3. It is also mentioned that your father has diabetes and proteinuria. Therefore, it might help to do a urine culture and sensitivity test for urinary infection and treat it if he has any infection.

4. Having a prostate size of 67 cc might cause infection in many people who have it and it is to be double checked if the PSA in your father is high because of infection. The PSA should be repeated after one month from the day his possible urinary infection is completely treated.

5. If PSA is persistently high and he does not have any urinary or prostate infection then a biopsy might be required to rule out cancer.

Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.
