What Does This Ultrasound Report Of Thyroid Indicate?

default
Posted on Fri, 26 Jun 2015
Question: I am 34 years old and recently have been having major issues with a constant dry cough, weight gain and fatigue. I recently had a ultrasound done of my thyroid and these are the results.
There is a solid and cystic lesion measuring 0.8x0.7x1.0cm at the superior pole of the right thyroid lobe with eccentric color flow in the solid component.
There is a heterogenrously hypoechoic nodule at the inferior pole of the left thyroid lobe measuring 1.2x0.9x0.9am with possible tiny cystic spaces.
There is color flow projecting over the bilateral thyroid parenchyma

I am a single mother of 2 little boys and am scared to death! Could this be cancer? I was referred to an endocrinologist who has now Sent me on to and ENT for surgery. Should I have a biopsy or have it removed!

Brief Answer:
Symptoms are suggestive of Hypothyroidism.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to HCM.

I appreciate your concern for the thyroid problem.

The symptoms of dry cough, weight gain, and fatigue are suggestive of hypo functioning of the thyroid gland i.e., Hypothyroidism.

Could you please provide the following details

1. Do you have a swelling in the front aspect of your neck which moves with swallowing?
2. Do you have any other symptom like change of voice, constipation, and menstrual irregularities?
3. Have you been investigated for the thyroid function tests like T3, T4, TSH, etc?

It appears from your query that you have some sort of thyroid gland enlargement (goiter) and the ultrasound findings are suggestive of some cyst with tumor which needs to be investigated like FNAC or biopsy to differentiate between a benign or malignant/

Hope this answers your query.

Wishing you a very good health.
