What Does This Ultrasound Report Indicate?
Question: Follow i'up qyestion about ultrasound Ultrasound report says dustended gallbkadder 4.7 cm but no wall thickening, no fluid negativs XXXXXXX sign, bile duct normal 3 mm, XXXXXXX gallstones in gb
Impression. No sign of scute cholecystitis. Overdistention of gb might have been due to biliary colic.
Should i be concerned about distended gb? Is this a sign of infkamec gb or is wall thickening rhe sign for that?

Hi and welcome.
Distended gallbladder can be sign of inflammation but only if associated with other signs and these are: thickenned wall, peri cholecystic fluid or pus, Intraluminal-wall desquamation, hypervascularisation and XXXXXXX sign Also, gallstones may or may not be seen since some cholecystitis occur with no gallstones.
Distension for itself is not worrying since it may be sign of obstructed cystic duct with no inflammation or is enlarged as a part of biological variety.
In every case, there is no reason for urgent treatment but if you have biliary colics then gallbladder should be removed laparoscopically. Wish you good health. Regards

Thanks. Report also says ducts are normal. No obstructing calculus is identified. I take this to mean no duct is blocked, correct? Intrahepatic and bile duct, does this include cystic duct?
I am also concerned because I am supposed to go on a trip in few days. other than some achiness in gb area, I feel fine. But does distended gb make me more susceptible to acute cholecystitis occurring in next few days, even if inflammation not present now? Is if too risky to fly is essentially what I am asking, based on abnormal finding of overdistended gb? I have travelled many times before knowing I have gallstones. Never with any problem. Is distended gb something more worrisome than presence of gallstones, suggesting complications in near future? Distended essentially means swollen and that makes me feel uneasy. Please advise if I should at all be concerned in next few days that something bad might happen because gb is distended.

Yes, this means that cystic duct is not obstructed. Bile duct is in this case probably common bile duct or ductus choledochus and it means that there is no obstruction either. Intra-hepatic ducts are inside the liver.
I would not say that there is a higher risk for inflammation if distension without cholecystiits is found,this is just finding at the time of UltraSonography test, probably Oddi sphincter contracted at this time and caused distension.
I suggest to have some antispasmodics with you and if pain progresses or fever occur then it is best to treat it with antibiotics and analgesia at the beginning.
But since you don't have any sign of cholecysitis and no stone in the neck of gallbladder then there is no need to worry and chances for getting inflammation in next few days is negligible.

Thanks for your answer. I am traveling in a couple of days so just want to check with you if I am in condition to go, based on the symptoms I describe to you.
I am feeling a constant ache right side of abdomen near rib cage, in other words around gall bladder area. With some minor tenderness/burning sensation if I press there. You have symptoms of gallstones colics, not cholecystitis. Cholecystitis is associated with increasing pain in right upper abdomen, fever, nausea and vomiting and trust me you would not have will to travel or go anywehere if you had it.
Also, cholecystitis develop in 24-48 hours and is progressive and in 3-4 days it would already cause serious symptomatology.
So US report and your symptoms are not indicating inflammation. And there is no some predictive factor that can indicate when inflammation can occur. It can happen in 1 day, 1 year or never.
