Posted on Wed, 7 Dec 2016
Question: Hi .. I am a 55 year old male.. I do drink Dailey.
I had blood work in may, all was perfect except ast was 48 and alt was 65. I reduced alcohol. Did not quite. Began exercising eating low carb and low fat. I lost 25 pounds and feel great. Redid blood work again this week and ast was 22 and alt 18. All other lIver function and cholesterol blood sugar were perfect. She did say liver was slightly swollen from alcohol consumption. But all looked good. I am having CT scan anyway. Your thoughts on the ast and alt returning to normal..is it a good sign ?

Blood work
Hepatitis was all non reactive

Brief Answer:
Hello looks normal now

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to HCM
Thank you for your query
I understand your concern
Well you had hepatitis related to dialy alcohol consumption.
Good you stopped it and reduced your weight
With that your liver inflammation has subsided and liver function tests are normal
But thus is likely to return back if you resume alcohol consumption
In addition worthwhile getting an sonography of liver done to look for scarring if they have some suspicion of cirrhosis or liver scarring worthwhile getting an fibroscan done too. It is good that reports are better.
Also get your sugar and lipids checked regularly and continue your diet and lifestyle modifications
Hope this answers your query
Good that you have a positive approach towards illness.
Happy to help
