Question: What does "Degenerative changes about the visualized osseous structures" and "Diffuse interstitial changes, likely chronic" mean? I had a chest x-ray and my doctor says it was negative. These do not appear to be negative results.....

Brief Answer:
There are some benign changes in the lungs and bones and are not important

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing in to us.

Degenerative changes in the osseous structures refers to usual changes in the bones after middle age. This is a usual occurrence in many people pf your age.

The term diffuse interstitial changes likely chronic means there are certain mild changes in your lung which is due to thickening of walls of small air passages. This change is there in both lungs are are probably of long duration. There is diffuse thickening of walls of small airways called interstitium. This can be seen in both the lungs.

Therefore the above sentences mention that your chest x ray has some findings which can be due to your age or smoking behaviour. It is negative for any severe infection and probably that is what your doctor is trying to telly you.

Hope your quyery is answered.
