Posted on Thu, 10 Dec 2015
Question: Hi,

I would like to know what should be further medical treatment that should be planned. Below are the symptoms and report details and medications currently using.

There were few of these symptoms, which were there in last two weeks and more often in last week. Before two weeks only pain in chest used to be there while coughing.

Sometimes continuous cough is there(for a minute), while coughing there is pain in chest.
Sometimes sudden and sharp pain in chest, close to midline, but only on right side. On rubbing it goes away.
On deep breath, there is pain on right side.
Sometimes feel lack of breath and gasping is there.

Chest x-ray report is as below:

Trachea midline.
No evidence of cardiomegaly.
Lungs-no obvious volume loss noted.
Wedge shaped soft tissue dense opacity noted in the right midzone with loss of tissue plane with the mediastinum. No other focal lesion noted.
CP angles appear free.
Diaphragm and sub diaphragmatic structures, bony thorax and soft tissues appears normal.

Possibilities: A locular pleural collection
           Focal segmental atelectesis

Suggested CT Chest if clinically indicated.

Please let me know further treatment that can be planned.

Brief Answer:
Better to continue same drugs for 1 week.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
I have gone through the drug list you have attached.
By your x ray report, possibility of infection and atelectesis is more.
You are taking broad spectrum antibiotic. And this will cover infection.
So take all these drugs fir atleast 1 week. Then get done repeat chest x ray.
If chest x ray is improving then no further treatment is required.
But if opacity is persistent or worsening then first get done CT thorax with Contrast. Don't go for needle aspiration.
CT will give more idea about opacity.
So at present, continue these drugs and if not improving after 7 days then get done CT thorax.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Apart from above mentioned medicines, I'm also using Brozedex syrup. Are there any further medicines/injections that can be used, that will help in the recovery. I have seen your comment that I was taking a broad spectrum antibiotic, but wanted to confirm if any other medicine is needed to be taken.

You are taking correct medicines. No additional medicines are needed.
Brozodex is expectorant and mucolytic. It is good in infection and atelectesis.
